In consonance with the philosophy of National Educational Policy and the spirit of Resilient Curriculum, the School of Foundational Sciences is constituted as an essential organ of RISM. The engineering learning is fortified by strong basics in Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. This School comprises of Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Social Sciences with dedicated faculty. RISM will admit graduate students to these departments to pursue Masters and Doctoral qualifications. The faculty, in addition to their engagement with the UG students, will be pursuing translational research in their fields of specialization.

He earned his Ph.D. in asymmetric organic synthesis from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali, India. He subsequently joined Boston College, USA, and the University of St Andrews, UK, as a postdoctoral fellow, focusing on protein bioconjugation and asymmetric organocatalysis. Dr. Sharanabasava D. Hiremath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, School of Foundational Sciences at RISM. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry from BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus. Prior to joining RISM, he held research positions at the University of Barcelona and IISER Kolkata. His research interests include supramolecular chemistry, molecular self-assembly, functional nanomaterials, aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active materials, and fluorescence-based chemical and biological sensing. His research focuses on the design and synthesis of smart molecular and nanomaterial-based systems for applications in sensing, bioimaging, stimuli-responsive materials, microchip design and functionalisation, and biomedical technologies. Dr. Tejaswini S. Rao received her Ph.D. in Materials Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru. Her research focuses on the fabrication and characterization of neuromorphic devices based on adaptive nanomaterials. Following her Ph.D., she worked as a research associate at JNCASR, exploring lithography-free methods for neuromorphic device fabrication. She was awarded the DST-INSPIRE Fellowship during her doctoral studies and the DST-INSPIRE Scholarship during her undergraduate and postgraduate education. She has also qualified the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) for Assistant Professorship. Her current research interests include adaptive nanomaterials and nanostructured devices for environmental sensing and neuromorphic computing applications. Kiraṇ Kumar’s practice of artistic research holds a curiosity for dis/continuities between premodern and future worlds. Drawing from foundations in mechanical engineering, media art, dance and yogic-tantrik practices, his transdisciplinary approach to research inquires into entanglements between (human) embodiment and (more than human) environments. To date, he has developed three long-term artistic research cycles, each variably oriented at the intersections of art, design, philosophy and technology; research outcomes range across performance, exhibition, publication and pedagogical formats.
His visual art works have shown at Jeu de Paume Paris (2019), Singapore Biennial (2022), 21st c. Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa (2023); performance works have shown at Festspielhaus Hellerau (2020), Gessneralle Zürich (2022), Theatre im Depot Dortmund (2025); and his writings have been published with Archive Books (2018), Performance Research Books (2020), K-Verlag (2023) and les presses du réel (2024).
